2010 Community Service
Project
August 18 at Welander Field
Grant, Minnesota
THINK SAFETY - DO IT
FOR THE KIDS!
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED:
The MSTMA is seeking volunteers to help with the
August 18, 2010
Community Service Project at Welander Field
in Grant, Minn. (next to White Bear Lake). To complete
this project, the use/need of equipment, products,
trucking/hauling and on-site labor is needed! As of
right now, the plan is to go with Plan A but if the
proper equipment and labor is secured, it could evolve
into Plan B or Plan C.
(See below).
Please contact Mike McDonald if you are interested in
volunteering or have equipment or products (look in Plan
A for needs) available for this August 18 project. Mike
can be reached at
mcdon015@umn.edu
or 612-625-5154. You may also contact the MSTMA office
at 952-473-3722 or
info@mstma.com. Although August is a
little ways away, we need to start planning now.
Needs:
1. Fence Products
2. Bases
3. Benches
4. Seed
5. Fertilizer
6. Ag-Lime
7. Trucking (ex. delivering ag-lime, soil, etc.)
8. Skid Loader
9. Aerator
10. Tractor
11. Seeder
12. Topdresser
13. Utility Carts
14. Laser Grader
In summary, we are looking for these needs, personnel
for manual labor. Financial donations for expenses are
needed, too.
Work Day:
8am - 4pm (8 hours is best, but a 4-hour shift works,
too.)
Lunch will be served at noon.
Plan A
Topdress, overseed and heavily aerate and
drag the turf (outfield) to help balance the high and
low spots. Seed and fertilize the outfield (this may
include an herbicide application for broadleaf weeds)
spring and fall. Re-shape, grade, and lay out the
infield. This would include scraping off some of the
existing ag-lime
material to fill in newly defined lines/radius, topping
with new ag. material, installing new bases and base
pegs, clean up around bench areas and fence lines: a
newly shaped and graded in-field.
Plan B
All items included in Plan A.
Install new fencing in front of bench areas, along first
and third base lines. Replace existing benches with
better ones (and possibly place them on cement pads).
Plan C
All items in Plan A and Plan B.
Remove existing bleachers. Re-grade hillside, where
bleachers currently sit, and the area between the
bleachers and the current backstop, creating a flat
surface in front and behind the backstop. Remove
existing backstop and reinstall so it is level with the
infield. Place concrete maintenance strips under all
fencing.
